Saturday Showcase #6 – InKibus

Today we are looking at InKibus from deviantART! :D

1. Care to tell us a bit about yourself?
Hello!
I am InKibus. I am young, ambitious and logical. All a person needs, right? ;)
Myself, uhm…
I’m double jointed and like Blue Heelers, Cathedrals, Medieval Armour, strange cinema, and so forth.
If there’s something someone is curious about they can ask me, I wouldn’t know what to say about myself.
I like cold oatmeal for lunch too.
Otherwise, my earlist art-life was spent dressing up in disguises around my house, drawing on every book and surface, and making a camera our of tinker-toys when I was 4 or 5 to ‘take’ pictures with.
Swiftly daddy gave me an empty camera to pop around with right after that.

Until I broke it.

Since then I’ve been dabbling in anything I can.

2.What media/materials do you work in? Do you have a favorite?
I work in photography (studio and nature), art illustration (pencils, watercolors), woodworking (furniture) and other crafting (costuming and reproductions).
So I can happily say I am a jack-of-the-trades. Favorite? Personally it’s illustrating my fantasy artworks, especially with watercolor pencils.
Sure, I easily get more recognition for my costuming and animal photos, and I do enjoy both of those as well.
There’s as much challenge trying to capture a perfect pose on rabbits in a flower bed or reconstructing a costume I have seen in a movie or illustration out of bondo and fiberglass.
But nothing satisfies me as much as trying to discover some realm right inside my head.

3. Can you tell us a bit about what inspires you or about your creative process?
Dreaming, I know that is clichéd. I hope that I am as connected with my dreaming mind as well as my waking one.
Plus, a healthy does of logic and temperament. (Sort of ironic, I know)
I feel like a visual parrot when I see things, I do my best to imitate, but it will come out slightly different.
My creative process for photos is gut instinct. Yes, there’s lots of technique, settings, calculating, and hundreds of redundant shots, but the best photos are instinctive. Pow~ Got it!
Crafting and woodworking is WORK. I get too inspired by elaborate armour and multilayer black frocks, and find myself halfway through the process thinking ‘How can I ever do this?’
But I don’t take on something I know I cannot achieve, knowing I can finish something eventually is enough to spurn me forward.
As for art, it’s really like learning another language just by being surrounded by people speaking without telling you what they are saying in your own native tongue.
It’s a lot of quickly getting the basics for ‘Thank you!’ and ‘Where’s the bathroom?” before moving onto the whole structure.,
But as is the case with many non-native languages, there’s a familiar sense of cadence and root-words perhaps that you can unconciously grab at in your mind with some innate understanding.
I am no pro and have no teaching, yet I’ve always felt like I would have some form of art to express myself one day.
That’s the dreaming part, I suppose it’s the niggling feeling of not wanting dreams and unique ideas to escape me forever, so perhaps
drawing them will capture that instant. (A little too much dreaming there, dreaming you can draw does not make up for practice, kids. Trust me)
Of course, to get such images right, it’s a great way to make one learn to draw better all the time. ;)
Half of it’s discovering and teaching myself, which on the bad days makes me feel like snapping my brushes over my knee.

4. Do you sell your art? If so, where can we get it?
I am working now at my Etsy shop. I am hoping to launch it soon, and hopefully sell some of my photos there.
Here it is, nothing yet.

Other places that you can get my stuff, besides DA prints;
Bubblesite
Redbubble
Cafepress
Zazzle
Fine Art America (technically nothing for sale there, but if I received interest, I’d offer the option)

5. I know it’s hard to choose, but can you show us your three favorite pieces?
Very hard! Buuutt right at this second:

Mouth of Sauron 2008 color by =InKibus on deviantART

The Distance 2- approaching by =InKibus on deviantART

6. Do you have any “plans” for your art? New techniques or materials you’d like to try, things you want to work on, etc.?
~For photos, a bigger upgraded camera and to actually sell some of my works.
~For costumes, new techniques and materials. My best costumes are ones I take more than a year to do.
This is always room to expand on. We like to do easy costumes punctuated with those more-worked-on ones, and we try and do something different each time with those.
And I wanna learn chain-maille too……..
~Art, Everything. I have just started with water paints, next to acrylics and oils.
I want to do more penwork to!

7. Anything else for all the people out in Internet Land?
Hello! I am Inkibus.
I am private. People whom want to find can probably glean enough off what I’ve posted here and in my copious other sites.
(Or what my sister posts)
And I try to chat with my friends now and then, but I am not much of a chatter. I have so little computer time, and generally I’m working when I am at the computer.
To cover the most asked questions I get weekly via the citizens of Internet Land;
~I do make furniture and photo it.
~Yes, I am a girl who likes to mostly costume mostly male villains. I am not transgendered, please, I just prefer to wear helmets and armour.
~And I am not really familiar with the band Incubus and did not get my name from them. (You can ask me for the origins if you want)
~Before you ask me one more question about my Mouth of Sauron costume, PLEASE read the FAQ!

And deviantART related I am also at InKi-Stock and DryadStudios

9. What book/comic/movie do you fit in best?
Well…. I would normally hope I was some dashing black clad super villain with long teeth who flies through the air…..

But in truth, I am one of the reoccurring characters in a Werner Herzog film; a possessed dreamer with ambitions and goals beyond the average human, that occasionally blind me to that trivial teather of reality, and I will stop at nothing to achieve something.
But being only human, these characters don’t always succeed. But hey, we try. ;)

So it goes.

Thank you crazed-fangirl and all you others out there!

Thank you, InKibus! :) Go and give her some love!
